Lifeline and lifebuoy

The lifebuoy is a mandatory safety item aboard your boat. It's essential forman over board (or woman overboard!) recovery maneuvers. Various shapes and designs are available on the market: crown buoys, horseshoe buoysand tube buoys, widely used by lifeguards. In addition to rigid lifebuoys, there are also inflatable lifebuoys, which are more compact and easier to store.

In this section, you'll also find a selection of lifelines, lanyards and harnesses at the best prices.

WHAT TYPE OF LIFEBUOY FOR YOUR BOAT?

What type of lifebuoy for your boat? Which one is best suited to your needs? The regulations provide an initial answer: a lifebuoy must be SOLAS-approved, weigh more than 2.5 kg so that it can be thrown far enough away, even into the wind, have a diameter greater than 40 cm to fit as many people as possible, be fitted with grips on the outside, bear the name of your boat and be flame-retardant and flame-resistant.

For many years, it was customary to fit your boat with crown buoys. These are shaped for casting, easy to grip andhighly buoyant. They can still be found in many places: swimming pools, cruise ships, pontoons, beaches, etc.

However, they are relatively bulky and not perfectly suited to all morphologies. Their diameter may be too small for a heavyset adult or too large for a child.

That's why the horseshoe buoy has taken its place. The latter, with its open cylindrical shape and clamping system, offers greater precision and adaptability. In fact, it's safer for your passengers.

BUOY, LIFELINE AND SLING :

However, other types of buoy are now available on the market. Some are SOLAS-approved, while others can be used as a safety complement to the compulsory equipment.
This is the case, for example, with the Rescue Tube lifebuoy from HPA, made famous by the lifeguards we meet on our beaches, the fire department and the lifeguards. It can be swum in by the lifeguard, then slipped on and clipped around the person in distress. It is often connected to a lanyard.

Other lifebuoy models for boats, such as the Silzzig lifebuoy from Plastimo, are highly technical and exceptionally practical. Extremely easy to store, it will fit perfectly along a lifeline, on a balcony or at the bottom of a RIB, where there may not be much room for more conventional lifebuoys. Its wide handles make it easy to pull the castaway and hoist him or her aboard.

In this section, you'll also find slings and throw lines for maintaining contact with the man overboard, while offering simplified stowage solutions. These are designed to be thrown fast and far in the toughest sea conditions.
