Radar reflectors are essential for safety at sea. Made of aluminum plates, they allow radar waves from other vessels to be reflected, making your boat visible on the cockpit screen. This remote detection equipment is compulsory for small pleasure craft. Boats less than 20 meters long, or made mainly of non-metallic materials, have few natural radar echoes. It can therefore be difficult for larger vessels to spot them, especially in poor weather conditions when visibility is reduced. The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea require the use of a passive radar reflector in these configurations. To optimize its range, it must be installed at a minimum height of 4 meters above the surface of the water.
