WHICH FLOAT TUBE TO CHOOSE / FLOAT TUBE BUYING GUIDE

There are 4 types of float tube: cordura Hard Fabric Line float tubes like the Heko 145 or the One Renegade, for example, are made up of 2 inflatable tubes inserted into a sturdy 600D cordura fabric. The water contact area is usually made of 1000D PVC.

The hybrid line, which includes the Cobra 170, Skullway 170 etc., is a range designed to take its inspiration from Zodiac-type semi-rigid boats. They are designed to be tubeless, all in 1000D PVC, making them extremely robust and virtually puncture-proof. The V-shaped Tomahawk 160 stands out with its W-shape, making it a float tube not to be missed.

Flatform float tubes, as represented by the Flatform Junior or the Jungle Operator, are a completely different type of float tube in the Air Dropstitch category, named after the dropstitch material made from 3D Mesh which, once inflated, stiffens the whole, allowing you to fish standing up, for example. This is the same 3D mesh PVC technology used on inflatable paddles.

Finally, the Pontoon format, like the "Poontoon", is a kind of float tube halfway between a catamaran and a rowboat, raised on an aluminum structure and made up of 2 inflatable tubes. Its shape and structure mean that the user doesn't get wet and can row without tiring.

THE HARD FABRIC LINE

Made of 600D cordura fabric and inflatable bladders, float tubes in this range are recommended for short fishing sessions or occasional anglers.

Resistant and comfortable, canvas float tubes like the One Renegade opposite feature 2 side panniers and a mesh apron for measuring fish. The cushion can be inflatable or foam. You'll need to buy fins to take full advantage of this type of float tube.

They generally support up to 130kg, so you'll need to carry a few extra accessories in your bag.

HYBRID FLOAT TUBES

Hybrid Line float tubes are a mix between a semi-rigid Zodiac-type boat and a float tube like theExplorer 170 shown here.

Made from 1000D PVC, they are sturdy and modular. They can be fitted with all kinds of accessories. Hybrids feature an inflatable dropstitch or foam seat, and can be supplied with oars, an inflator and a repair kit. Easy to inflate, fold and store, they can also be carried on the back with shoulder straps, depending on the model.

PLATFORM FLOAT TUBES

Like the Flatform EVO, for example, platform float tubes are extremely stable and can be fitted with a motor (if motor support is supplied). Their unique dropstitch composition gives them rock-solid strength and rigidity.
