ACR GLOBALFIX V5 BEACON OPERATION

In the event of an emergency, the ACR EPIRB GlobalFix V5 distress beacon features various technologies to communicate your position, maximizing your chances of survival:

  1. Link to emergency services via Cospas Sarsat 406 MHz distress signal (compatible with MEOSAR)
  2. 121.5MHz radiolocation signal for rescue vessels
  3. AIS transmitter (161.975/162.025MHz)
  4. RLS (Return Link Service) function, confirmation of distress message reception
  5. Visual indication with strobe light (white light and infrared)
  • Floating
  • Retractable antenna
  • Floating bracket with automatic release
  • Battery life: over 48 hours at -20°C

RETURN LINK SERVICE (RLS)

The ACR GlobalFix V5 (cat.1) beacon also incorporates return link service (RLS) technology . This means that search and rescue services receive confirmation via the Galileo satellite network that the distress message has been received and the position detected .

The shipwrecked person is then informed by a flashing blue light on the beacon that his distress signal has been confirmed, taken into account and that help is on its way.

This EIPRB ACR GlobalFix V5 distress beacon also provides rescuers with visual assistance by producing a white strobe light, as well as infrared light. This is particularly useful when searching at night or in poor visibility .

NFC CONNECTIVITY

The ACR GlobalFix V5 Cat. I beacon also features NFC functionality, enabling it to connect to a smartphone.

In addition to being able to see that their distress signal has been taken into account by a rescue center, the EPIRB function enables the survivor to access various information from their beacon.

Once the ACR Product App (available free of charge on IOS and Android) has been installed, simply hold your phone up to the beacon and the application will open. It provides a wealth of information :

  • Usage data
  • Settings information
  • Battery status (life)

It also shows the number of self-tests & GNSS tests carried out and passed:

  • Geolocation of tests on a map
  • Date and time of tests
  • Time taken for the beacon to obtain a GNSS position
  • Number of satellites used by the beacon
  • Location accuracy

Warning: only works with an NFC (Near Field Communication) compatible smartphone

SELF-TRIGGERING SUPPORT CAT. I

The ACR GlobalFix V5 beacon is supplied with a Category 1 self-triggering floating mounting bracket .

If the user is unable to reach the GlobalFix V5 beacon during a sinking incident, it is automatically released from its housing via a hydrostatic release once it has reached a certain depth (4m).

Once on the surface, the ACR GlobalFix V5 distress beacon is automatically activated and starts transmitting a distress message.

It can, of course, be triggered manually by means of a button protected by a cover, to prevent tampering and false distress calls.

There is also a version with manual triggering, the ACR GlobalFix V5 Cat. II.
