The new XHD range of radars offers a host of improvements:

• Dual rotation speed: 24 rpm / 48 rpm to refine your searches

• Dual scaling: display small- and large-scale echoes simultaneously

• Dynamic automatic gain and dynamic sea state filter: continuously adapts to the surroundings, for optimum performance in all circumstances

BASIC FUNCTIONS

Of course, the basic functions common to all Garmin radars can still be used. These include

• MARPA targets: tracking of 10 targets to predict possible collisions

• Guard zone programming to define vigilance zone with alarm

• Overlay: Overlay your radar and AIS on cartography (requires electronic compass)

YOUR RADAR ON THE BIG SCREEN

To operate, this radar must be combined with a multifunction display from the Garmin GPSMAP range.

Despite the arrival of AIS, which seems simpler to use, radar is still the only instrument capable of visualizing fixed or moving surrounding elements (buoys, reefs, boats...), day, night or in fog.

In the past, radar was difficult to set up and interpret, but the new generations make this job much easier, and the Overlay view, which superimposes the radar image on the chart, removes any ambiguity. Radar is indispensable for securing your cruise.
