DUOGEN 3 IN WIND MODE

When the wind strength is suitable,the DuoGen automatically shifts to the same direction to allow the propeller to turn constantly. As wind speed increases, the DuoGen automatically untwists. This stops the propeller and protects the alternator. When the wind strength returns to an acceptable level, the system returns to the correct direction and the wind turbine is back in operation.

The DuoGen will orient itself between 5 and 10° to the wind direction. In strong winds, the DuoGen will position itself at 20 to 30°. In practice, the DuoGen is managed automatically. Automatic feathering is triggered by the fact that the alternator does not accept sudden acceleration, and by the DuoGen's tail.

Under certain conditions, the wind turbine may unintentionally or excessively run out of wind. Probable causes are :

• When the batteries are fully charged and the optional regulator diverts current to the resistors.
• Turbulence: when air streams are inconstant or swirling, this causes the DuoGen to untwist.
• Electrical or mechanicalproblem.
• Blockage due to salt deposits: clean bearings regularly with clear water.

When anchored, you can block the automatic rotation by activating the pin on the mast tube (Hydro blocking mode). In this way, the wind generator will always point in the direction of the wind, as the boat will automatically position itself in this direction.

DUOGEN 3 IN WATER MODE

DuoGen is a combined water and wind generator that can be easily reconfigured to harness the kinetic energy of a water current or a wind current to produce electricity.

The advantage of this dual-mode system is that the owner has greater potential for energy conversion than with a single-source system.

Indeed, the airflow intercepted by a ship's sails when underway is several times greater than the surface area intercepted by a typical wind turbine. Consequently, for a given wind speed, the amount of energy produced to charge the batteries is generally much greater when under sail and the DuoGen 3 is deployed in hydrogenerator mode.

Switching from water to wind mode takes just a few seconds, without tools, and without having to dismantle or reposition the main system components or electrical connections.

In hydro mode, the generator pivots in 2 planes to follow the yacht's every move.

To raise the DuoGen from the water, you'll need to wait until the boat is at a standstill or at a very low speed.
