This Minn Kota portable 12V battery charger recharges all lead-acid batteries. It can remain permanently connected to the mains, as it has an automatic mode that controls battery charging.

Here, with a 5A output, it recharges a battery in 10 to 12 hours.

The Minn Kota battery charger switches off automatically at the end of charging. So there's no risk of overcharging. Fixed chargers can be easily installed inside the boat to automatically recharge and maintain on-board batteries in complete safety, once the electrical connection has been made to the shore power socket.

Charging takes place in 3 stages:

Stage 1: provides high amperage up to 75% charge (14.4 Vdc).
Step 2: maintains voltage between 13.2 and 13.5 Vdc and amperage between 0.1 and 0.3 A to limit gas formation.
Step 3: maintains voltage between 13.2 and 13.5 Vdc and amperage between 0.1 and 0.3 A.
