Main functions of battery switch (engine off) :

• Provide a fast, efficient means of disconnecting the battery from the electrical circuits.

Safety function:
For non-self-energizing alternators, the "excitation cut-off" option prevents damage to the alternator if the electrical circuit is accidentally opened while the engine is running.
