MCMURDO - EPIRB G8 BEACON AIS PLUS MANUAL - SAFETY ON BOARD
The McMurdo SmartFind G8 AIS Plus is a marine distress beacon designed to quickly alert rescue services and make it easier to locate you at sea. It combines a 406 MHz satellite signal, a 121.5 MHz homing signal, and a AIS message visible on the AIS screens of nearby vessels.
Once activated, it operates for at least 48 hours. It also features a high-intensity flash and infrared illumination for improved visual tracking, day and night.
Thanks to its manual release, this beacon is particularly suitable for sailboats, motorboats and fishing boats. It's easy to grasp, quick to deploy and ready for use in emergency situations.

406 MHZ ALERT AND GNSS POSITIONIn the event of distress, the beacon immediately sends an alert on 406 MHz via the Cospas-Sarsat satellite network. It automatically determines your position using compatible GNSS systems, then adds it to the message to reduce the search area.
The beacon is designed to float and remain operational in water. It can be used on board, in the water or in a life raft. |
AIS DISTRESSIn addition to the satellite alert, the G8 AIS Plus transmits a AIS distress message on 162 MHz with the beacon's ID and position. Vessels equipped with a AIS system can thus immediately visualize a distress target on their screen and intervene more rapidly.
This dual technology, satellite and AIS, greatly improves the chances of rapid location, both in coastal and offshore navigation. |
