This type of air-cooled chiller is particularly suitable for boats operating in waters where access to seawater is impractical , or for boats that prefer a stand-alone cooling solution .

It generally requires less maintenance than water-cooled systems, and can be simpler to install in some cases.

The system draws in ambient air via a fan and then passes through a heat exchanger where it cools the gaseous refrigerant.

The ventilated evaporator incorporates a fan to force air circulation through the evaporator and prevent frost formation .

It is generally more efficient than other types of evaporator, but requires more space.

AN INFINITE REFRIGERATION CYCLE

The Compact Classic VE150 chiller is specifically designed to be powered by ambient air. Here's how the system works

1. A fan draws in ambient air through grilles on the compressor
2. The air passes through a heat exchanger and cools the gaseous refrigerant in the compressor, which is then compressed
3. The refrigerant circulates through a condenser, releasing its heat into the ambient air . This condenses the refrigerant into a high-pressure liquid
4. The refrigerant passes through an expansion valve where its pressure drops, cooling its temperature. It then becomes a very cold, low-pressure mixture of liquid and gas
5. This mixture circulates through the evaporator , which absorbs heat from the compartment, cooling the space. By absorbing the heat, the refrigerant evaporates and becomes a low-pressure gas once again
6. The cycle starts again when the compressor draws in the gaseous refrigerant
