Hi, I recently bought a Striker Vivid and I'm having a few problems connecting it to the battery correctly. The power cable supplied with the device has 4 wires of different colors: brown, blue, black and red. I'd like to know which wires I should connect to the battery's positive and negative terminals. What should-I do with the remaining 2 wires?
On the other hand, I noticed a yellow terminal on the back of the unit's screen. Could-you tell me what it does?
Hello, to connect the Striker Vivid device to the battery, you need to connect :
- The red wire to the positive (+) battery terminal
- The black wire to the negative terminal (-) of the battery
The other two wires, brown and blue, are not required for basic power supply. You can insulate them with a piece of tape to prevent them from shorting-circuiter.
These brown and blue wires are actually used for data communication between your device and another model in the same range, should you wish to use this advanced feature.
Concerning the yellow lug on the back of the device, this is the "ground lug", and must be connected to ground.
Please refer to the installation manual for wiring instructions on page 2: https://static.garmin.com/pumac/STRIKER_Vivid_5_7_9_install.pdf
Hello. I have a striker 5hp. How can I increase the brightness of the screen, as the reflections are very strong at sea?
Second question. How can I enter a GPS point so that it appears on the screen in order to find a fishing spot that I don't know. Thanks
Hi Mariette, you can adjust the screen brightness as follows:
Select Settings > System > Display > Backlight.
Concerning the creation of a waypoint, here's what the Striker 5 manual says on the subject:
- Select User data > Waypoints > New waypoint.
- Select an option:
- To create a waypoint using position coordinates, select Enter coordinates, then enter the coordinates.
- To create the waypoint using a map, select Use map, select the position, then press Select button.
- To create the waypoint using range and bearing, select Enter range/bearing and enter the required information.
I also invite you to watch our YouTube videos on how to use the Active Captain application to download bathymetric charts of fishing spots you're not familiar with, for example.
