Description

NKE - HIGH-FREQUENCY GPS - HIGHLY RESPONSIVE BOTTOM SPEED

There are significant differences between bottom speed and surface speed in a current-free zone. This difference in speed is due to the speed of the water layer over the wave. A wave is a transverse wave that transports energy without displacing matter. In some cases, the water layer moves in a circular elliptical motion, inducing an apparent wind independent of surface speed.

Surface speed is the speed at which the hull moves relative to this layer of water.

A NEW STEERING MODE

When steering in true surface wind mode, the variation in apparent wind due to this movement is not taken into account in the calculation. The true wind angle changes according to the speed of this layer of water, and the pilot compensates for this. The speeds observed are of the order of 2 to 3 knots.

For example, at 10 knots apparent wind and 126° true wind, this represents a 10° variation in true wind angle. By calculating the wind from the bottom speed, we integrate the "speed of this layer of water", so the true wind angle no longer varies with it.

The use of a high-frequency GPS provides :

  • A steering mode that improves handling: REAL WIND BOTTOM mode
  • Highly responsive bottom speed

This GPS sensor provides bottom speed at a frequency of 10 Hz (10 times per second). It connects directly to the NKE bus. The sensor's NMEA output enables it to be interfaced to a PC to use GPS data.

ON THE USER'S SIDE

The choice of speed source1 (bottom or surface) for true wind calculation is made from the Gyropilot Graphic.

By engaging the pilot's true wind mode, you can pilot in either true bottom or surface wind mode, depending on your choice.

Another advantage of this high-frequency GPS sensor is that it provides an excellent means of continuing to use true wind in the event of a problem with the surface speed sensor.

This sensor is recommended for boats equipped with a Gyropilot NKE and requires the true wind option (pilot) and the bottom speed option (depth sounder log interface).

TRUE WIND OPTION

True wind mode and bottom speed source are optional on the Gyropilot 2 pilot from NKE. This option can also be added at a later date using an access code that we will send you once the item has been ordered.

Please note:

For us to be able to give you a code corresponding to your driver, you must provide us with the serial number of your Gyropilot 2 ECU. You'll find the serial number on the label on your computer, or on your invoice.
