The GyroPilot 3 computer provides users with unrivalled control quality. It replaces the GyroPilot 2 from NKE.

This new range of autopilots meets the needs of the cruising and regatta sectors, as well as those of offshore racing.

The GyroPilot 3 computer is a navigation aid designed to automate course keeping, ensure boat stability, assist the skipper during maneuvers, and put the boat in a safe position if a man overboard is detected.

To use your GyroPilot 3 autopilot, you will need at least a rudder angle sensor and a Fluxgate or high-precision compass NKE.

The GyroPilot 3 computer can be used to perform the following actions:

Follow course, track or wind in all sea and wind conditions.
Maintain boat stability by ensuring a constant heel, if heel mode is enabled.
Control gusts of wind, if gust mode is activated.
Tack or gybe automatically.

The autopilot can be used in a variety of modes : true wind mode, apparent wind mode, compass mode, helm mode, GPS mode, or the "SUPER" modes of heel and gust.

GYROPILOT 3 CONTROL MODES The GyroPilot 3 computer has a total of 6 control modes, but a display will only show the modes that can be used with the sensors available on the system. If an Anemo-Wind vane is missing, for example, the wind modes are not available. Only the rudder angle sensor is required in all steering modes. Rudder mode: requires a rudder angle sensor connected and configured on the ECU. This is a basic mode for setting a rudder angle and locking the rudder. Compass mode: requires a heading source. GyroPilot 3 steers the boat by following the magnetic heading of your compass. Apparent wind mode: requires an anemovane sensor. The GyroPilot 3 steers the boat by following the apparent wind angle delivered by your anemovane sensor True wind mode: requires a wind vane sensor and boat speed. This mode allows you to go straight down the wave, keeping in mind the optimum angle of descent. GPS mode: requires a compass sensor, as well as a GPS, or any other instrument delivering NMEA GPS frames. The latter must be connected to an NMEA input on the nke installation. The GyroPilot 3 steers the boat along the route provided by the GPS to a given waypoint. Polar mode: requires an external calculator that provides the optimal wind angle (VMG) calculated from a speed polar. Polar mode allows the boat to follow an optimal wind angle, and works in the same way as true wind mode.
