Compact, hand-held sounder Plastimo Echotest 2 gives depth or distance to an obstacle depending on the position in which it is held.

A probe integrated into the top of the Echotest II transforms electrical energy into high-frequency pulses (200 KHz). These pulses travel through the water at a speed of around 1500 m/s, providing a constant update of water depth and distance from an intermediate object.
