What is a bow thruster?

A bow thruster enhances the boating experience by making maneuvering easier. Docking your boat or leaving the dock becomes much simpler.

For maximum efficiency, the bow thruster's propeller needs to be installed as far forward as possible (to get the best leverage), while keeping it sufficiently submerged to maximize propulsion and avoid churning the air.

This is where the difficulty lies, because on both sailboats and speedboats, the forward part of the hull is often only slightly immersed in the water. The positioning of a thruster is therefore an essential feature.

Whatever the choice of thruster, installation requires work on the boat's structure. An error in positioning can have serious consequences. If you're planning to do it yourself, contact a specialist for advice.
