Depending on diameter, line stiffness and number of strands, the fairlead's instantaneous locking system holds the line. If the diameter is greater than 28 mm or the situation is unfavorable, pressure must be maintained on the lateral lever to wedge the mooring line in order to bind it to the bitt.
