Conventional navtex antennas respond to the electrical component associated with the navtex radio signal. They generally work well at sea where electrical interference is low, but can sometimes be overwhelmed by interference, particularly when in port and connected to shore power.
Reception is by radio on the dual-frequency Navtex, on 490kHz (in the language of the country near which you are sailing) and 518 kHz (in English only).
VECTOR H ANTENNAThe omnidirectional H-Vector antenna is not sensitive to electric fields, but to the magnetic component of the Navtex signal. As a result, it is less sensitive to locally generated interference and, as it doesn't need to be placed on the ground, it is unaffected by interference in harbors or at sea. Under unfavorable conditions, the H-Vector antenna can provide a significant improvement in navtex reception. The antenna mounting bracket is not supplied. |
