dessalinisateur pour bateau

How does a watermaker work?

Marine watermakers are very useful on pleasure boats, so you'll never run out of drinking water. A watermaker offers between 10% and 30% production, depending on the size of the product. A compact watermaker will produce less fresh water from the same volume of seawater than a large one.

A marine watermaker pumps seawater through a fine network of pipes and filters. The water is then sent through a membrane under very high pressure, so that the water molecules pass through, but not the minerals and impurities - this is known as reverse osmosis.

Desalination does, however, consume a lot of energy.
