MARINE RADAR

THE Autopilot

autopilot is now an integral part of the navigation system. A high-performance navigation aid, it can, depending on the vessel on which it is installed, maintain a course on a sailboat, follow a pre-configured route on a motorboat, or access a waypoint on a fishing boat.

As a true co-pilot, it communicates with a number of sensors, such as the rudder angle sensor, the GPS or the anemometer, in order to receive, analyze and send navigation data to the various instruments and steering systems.

COMMUNICATION AND RADIO

VHF (Very High Frequency) radios are widely used on board ships for indispensable long-distance communication during navigation. There are two types of VHF: fixed and portable.

Fixed VHFs are installed on board the vessel and enable remote communications to be transmitted and received at any time. Portable VHFs, on the other hand, are lightweight, easy-to-carry devices that can be used on board ship or ashore.

Transponders AIS (Automatic Identification System) are navigation equipment that enable ships to locate each other and exchange important information, such as the name, type, position, speed and direction of each vessel. Transponders AIS can be a single device called a transponder AIS if it is a receiver and transmitter, but some VHFs can be equipped withAIS, which is often the case with fixed VHFs, and is therefore referred to as a VHF with AIS.

Some VHFs are also equipped with GPS, such as the icom fixed VHF IC-M330GE GPS

External VHF antennas can also be used, installed on the vessel to improve the range of VHF communications.
