SAFETY AT SEA

It's important to have the right safety equipment when you're on a boat, especially if you're sailing at sea or in remote waters. Here are some safety features commonly used to protect people on board a boat:

  • AIS (Automated Navigation Information System): this is a radio navigation system that enables vessels to locate and communicate with each other, which can be useful in an emergency.
  • Lifejacket: this is a personal flotation device that keeps a person afloat in the event of a fall into the water. It is important to wear a lifejacket when boating, especially if you are far from shore.
  • Distress beacon: this is a signal transmitter that enables emergency services to locate a vessel in distress. You must have an emergency beacon on board your boat in case of an emergency beyond a certain distance from the coast
  • Liferaft: This is a collective flotation device that can be used to evacuate a vessel in case of need.
  • MOB equipment: This stands for "Man Overboard". It is a term used to describe a situation in which a person falls into the water from a vessel. There is a wide range of equipment that can be used to protect people on board a vessel and ensure their safety in the event of a man overboard (locator beacon, automatic circuit breaker, flashlight, buoys)

We also recommend that you have a VHF radio and a first-aid kit on board your boat.
